Campus Nurse

If your child is referred to the health clinic, then they are sent home with a copy of their health referral pass. This shows what the child was sent to the clinic for and what interventions were taken to get the student back to class. Most clinic visits do not require a call home to parents and the copy of the referral pass is the most common type of communication that a parent will receive from the health clinic/Nurse. There are always exceptions to be made on a case by case scenario and there may be times when the Nurse will need to call the parent. The Nurse will always call the parent in case of an emergency, assessment findings that require further evaluation by a physician, or there are concerns or questions about the health of the child. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to speak with the nurse.

Though we look forward to seeing your child every school day, there are times when he/she may need to be kept home. If your child has been experiencing any vomiting/diarrhea or fever then they will need to stay home until fever/vomit/diarrhea free for at least 24 hours without the use of medications that may suppress it (example: tylenol, ibuprofen, zofran, Imodium, etc).If they have recently seen a physician, then they will need to stay home until cleared by their physician (which is normally seen on the return to school date on the physician school excuse note). Common contagious health problems such as Pink Eye, Strep throat, and various rashes will have to be cleared by the child’s physician before returning to school. Bathroom accidents happen from time to time and it is better to be prepared for them. The Nurse encourages all parents in grades kindergarten through First grade to pack an extra change of clothes in their student’s backpack. Please know that staff will not be able to dress or clean the child up and they will be asked to perform these tasks on their own. There are limited clothing items in the clinic for students to use and at times, when a student does not have an extra set of clothes, the parents will be called to bring the items needed. Clothing changes can also occur if they slipped in mud or water on the playground or it rained at the bus stop.

Medications shall be administered only when the student’s health REQUIRES that they be given during school hours. ALL medications require a physician's order to be given at school which is different from the prescription label on the medication. Our medication policy and Medication administration form can be found on the Lucas website under Campus Nurse. Please contact the nurse if you have any questions or would like to discuss having medication on campus for your child.
